On December 14th, 2015, Aaron Chadbourne represented Governor LePage at an event to present a commendation from the Foreign Minister of Japan to the Friends of Amori. Portland Mayor Ethan Strimling spoke at the event, as did the Consul General of Japan, Tsutomu Himeno, who met with Governor LePage earlier in the day to review the proclamations.
Last fall, Governor LePage conducted a 2-day trade mission to Japan with the hopes of enhancing business relationships in the tourism, seafood, and composite industries. Maine’s trade and government officials adhered to a busy itinerary, including visits to Idexx‘s Tokyo office, meetings with potential investors, the Japan External Trade Organization, and the Keidanren Business Federation.
In addition to various meetings, Maine officials attended events in Tokyo to promote Maine industries. The Maine Department of Marine Resources sponsored a session on Maine lobsters to approximately 80 attendees, which included chefs and food importers. This series of events also included a seminar on advanced textiles in hopes of promoting Maine’s composite industry.
The trade mission to Japan was deemed a success, according to Maine officials. Both Maine and Japan can expect an enhanced business relationship as it relates to tourism, seafood, and composites.
